Senior lawyer, Organization for Aid to Refugees (OPU)
Zuzana Pavelková is a senior lawyer at the Organization for Aid to Refugees (OPU) based in the Czech Republic. For the past five years, she has been focusing on litigating and advocating for the rights of minors, children and other vulnerable migrants deprived of liberty in immigration detentions.
In 2021, she helped to bring a case of a young boy from Iraq wrongfully detained as an adult to the Czech Constitutional Court. The case compelled the authorities to change their practices on age assessment. In 2022, she co-authored a first-ever submission against the Czech Republic to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. At present, she is at the forefront of a advocacy campaign aiming at a complete abolishment of immigration detention of children and minors in Czechia.
Zuzana is also a member of the Czech Green Party and served as FYEG Co-Spokesperson between 2018-2019.
